The officer leading the national police response to the virus was unable to correctly say whether two people from separate households in Tier 2 areas can meet indoors.
Quizzed by MPs on Wednesday, Assistant Chief Constable Owen Weatherill said: “I have not got the regulations in front of me so I cannot give you a definitive answer on that.
“There are so many different variations – I am not conversant with every set of regulations.”
Massive fail. In fact, you are restricted from meeting anyone from a different household indoors in Tier 2 unless you are in a single-adult household and are part of a support bubble.
Lancashire’s Chief Constable Andy Rhodes slipped up on the same question and had to be corrected by Commons Home Affairs Committee chairman Yvette Cooper.
The Chief Constable admitted his officers “can be as confused as other people”.
